Apartments for sale in Red Hook New York

Red Hook

Set against a backdrop of shipyards and the occasional cobblestone street, Brooklyn’s Red Hook is a seaside community popular with young professionals and new families. Surrounded by water on three sides, the economy was anchored by maritime commerce up until the 1970’s. Today, tech firms and local start-ups inject new life into the area by converting disused warehouses into 21st century workspaces. A few new residential developments are underway to accommodate those drawn by its small-town feel and affordability, but in general the housing landscape is comprised primarily of townhouses, with a few prewar apartment buildings in the mix.

Red Hook’s waterside status translates to beautiful views of the bay, the Statue of Liberty, and Lower Manhattan, and with numerous waterfront parks to patron, enjoying these amazing views can easily become a way of life. The commercial district offers upscale boutiques, homey eateries, quirky dive bars, and a growing arts scene. There is no direct train service to the area, and while some consider this a drawback, others value the isolation and the authenticity it lends to the neighborhood. Other transportation options are available, including bus lines that run to downtown Brooklyn, ferry service to other parts of Brooklyn and Wall Street, and NY Water Taxi service to Lower Manhattan.
